We spend a lot of time talking about the music.
The sound.
The mix.
The release.
But there’s a part of creating that doesn’t get talked about enough.
The part that happens in the room…
when the music hasn’t been made yet.
🎧 A Moment From a Recent Session
I was in a session recently with an artist I’ve been working with.
We had the beat ready.
The vibe was there.
But something was missing.
We weren’t connecting yet.
You could feel it.
We started throwing out ideas — nothing was sticking.
Then there was a pause.
And that’s when the shift happened.
Instead of forcing lyrics, we started talking.
Real conversation.
About life.
About things we don’t usually say out loud.
And in that moment, everything changed.
The song started writing itself after that.
🤝 What People Don’t See
That’s the part people don’t see.
Collaboration isn’t just:
It’s:
- energy
- trust
- timing
- vulnerability
Sometimes you walk into a session ready.
Sometimes you don’t.
Sometimes you open up.
Sometimes you hold back.
And those decisions shape the song more than anything technical ever will.
🔄 Where I’m At Right Now
This is something I’ve been learning a lot lately.
Working with different artists…
Different personalities…
Different stories…
Not everyone comes into the room in the same headspace.
And that’s where the real work begins.
Not just producing music —
but creating a space where something real can happen.
💭 What I’ve Realized
The best songs I’ve been part of lately didn’t start with a hook.
They started with honesty.
💬 Let’s Talk
If you create — or collaborate —
Have you ever had a moment like that?
Where the song didn’t come until something real was said?
I’d love to hear about it.
